所以，mouse 一般指的是可愛的小動物，比如 Mickey mouse 米老鼠。

a pack rat

“pack”我們都知道是“包裹，包裝”的意思 ，那“a pack rat”是“包裹的老鼠”的意思嗎？

其實它是“someone who collects things that they do not need”，即“好收集一大堆自己不需要的東西的人；囤積狂”的意思。

For me there could be nothing worse than living with a pack rat.

對我來說人世間最痛苦的事莫過于同一個囤積狂共處一室。

a rat race

“race”做動詞，是“參加競賽，和...競賽”的意思。那“a rat race”這個短語其實就很好理解了，老鼠競賽是為了爭奪食物，場面一定很激烈，甚至都有可能拼命。

所以它是“過于激烈的競爭，亡命爭奪”的意思，英文釋義是“an unpleasant way in which people compete against each other at work in order to succeed.”。

look like a drowned rat

“drowned”表示“溺死的”的意思，這個短語是用來形容人全身濕淋淋，就像一只溺死的老鼠一樣，跟中文的“落湯雞”有異曲同工之妙。

rat-arsed
