英文中“ping”或“pang”可跟“乒乓”沒有關(guān)系！
其實，英語中還有很多寫法和中文拼音一樣的單詞。我們很容易受到母語影響，第一反應(yīng)把它代入漢語拼音。比如說“I will ping you”。這個“ping”在這里是什么意思呢？

名詞：
a short, sharp sound
乒乓的聲響，砰的聲響
動詞：
to make a short, sharp sound
乒乓作響，發(fā)出砰的響聲
We heard a small stone ping against our window.
我們聽到一顆小石子砰的一聲砸在我們的窗戶上。
to send an email or text message
發(fā)送郵件；發(fā)送短信
Ping me an email.
給我發(fā)郵件
所以，“I will ping you”是“我會給你發(fā)消息”的意思。此外，發(fā)消息還可以說“text”，名詞或動詞都可以。
Ill send you a text as soon as I have any news.
我一得到任何消息，就立刻給你發(fā)短信。
I texted her to arrange a time to meet.
我給她發(fā)了短信，和她約好見面時間。
還有一個和“ping”看起來有點像的“pin”，雖然只有3個字母，但是它也有很多不同的意思。

那是兩相插頭還是三相插頭？
Doctors inserted a metal pin in his leg to hold the bones together.
醫(yī)生們把一根鋼針釘進他腿里把骨頭固定住。
英文釋義2：a small thin piece of metal with a point at one end, especially used for temporarily holding pieces of cloth together
（尤指用于固定布料用的）別針，大頭針
Ill keep the trouser patch in place with pins while I sew it on.
在把褲子的補丁縫上去時，我會用別針把它固定好。
英文釋義3：a leg 腿
Grandpas very old now and hes very shaky on his pins.
爺爺現(xiàn)在年紀很大了，走路有點不穩(wěn)。
此外，“pin”在國際象棋中還有“牽制”或“困子”的意思。這是特殊的一步，移動后阻止另一方移動棋子，因為移動棋子會使另一個更重要的棋子有危險。
That nasty pin stopped me from moving my knight.
這步討厭的牽制，使我無法移動我的馬。

再來補充一些相關(guān)的俚語表達：
pin your hopes on sth/sb 把希望寄托在…上
pin back your ears 傾聽，仔細聽
pin sth on sb 把…歸咎于（尤指無辜者）
You cant pin the blame on her - she wasnt even there when the accident happened.
你不能把責(zé)任推到她身上——事故發(fā)生時她根本不在現(xiàn)場。
pin sth down 清楚地知道；確認
We cant pin down where the leak came from.
我們無法確定哪里發(fā)生了泄漏。
而大寫的“PIN”是“Personal identification number”的縮寫，它是“銀行卡密碼”的意思。也可以譯為“用戶個人識別碼”，常和number連用。PIN number通常是由一串數(shù)字組成，多指在提取現(xiàn)金或辦理銀行業(yè)務(wù)時，需要在數(shù)字鍵盤上輸入的個人賬戶密碼。
看到“pang”，很多人可能會想到“胖”，但它的意思是“一陣劇痛；（尤指）悲痛”。

一陣妒忌
We hadnt eaten since yesterday and the hunger pangs were getting harder to ignore.
我們從昨天起一直沒有吃東西，饑餓引起的陣陣胃疼越來越難以忍受了。
看到“ping”又看到“pang”，難免會讓人想到我們的國球“乒乓球”。但是“乒乓球”正確的英語表達是“Ping-Pong”。
