主謂一致，是中國學生學習語法最容易出錯的內容之一。一會兒是就遠啦、就近啦；一會兒又是“集合名詞”分兩種啦……怎么那么多“規(guī)則”。我們今天把它梳理一下，其實就是三個字展開，這樣就便于記憶了。

三個字分別是：形、意、合。（不是馬云拍的電影《攻守道》哦?。?/p>

形：看似復數名詞的形式（即S結尾），但卻是單數。

意：主要是集合名詞，要根據它所指的對象確定單復數。

合：兩個名詞構成的詞組，根據其核心詞決定單復數。

形變動詞不變，這些名詞雖然都以s結尾，卻是單數。

Works 工廠

Means 途徑

Physics 物理

Series 系列

Species 物種

【注意】

l 一些專有名詞，如書刊名稱：Times（《泰晤士報》）；The Arabian Nights（《天方夜譚》）。

l 另外，這中間有些詞的復數也無變化，例如series，means，species，所以要注意其他線索。

【實例】

1. Every possible means is tried to prevent the air pollution.

2. The sales of her latest book has reached 50 million.

意變則動詞變，突出整體是單數；突出成員是復數。

Team （團隊）

Family（家庭）

Committee（委員會）

Staff（職員）

Crowd（人群）

The old/disabled （殘疾人）

Police（警方）

People（人們）

【注意】

l 這里面要注意一些多義名詞。例如people，指“民族”的時候就是一個普通名詞，可以有many peoples（多民族）；又比如Chinese，要看它指的是中國人、還是“中文”。

l 像police，people，以及用來類指的The +形容詞（如上面的the old），總是用作復數。

【實例】

3. The committee has passed a new law to protect endangered animals.

4. It was reported that the local police are searching for a escaped prisoner.

合變則動詞變。兩個名詞不分主次、為復數；有主次、則看中心詞。

這里情況比較復雜：

一、雖為并列、卻是單數，如：

Bread and butter（黃油面包——一種食品）；Every man and woman（男男女女——每個人）；Going to bed and getting up （早睡早起——一種習慣）。

【實例】

5. Every boy and girl in the area was invited.

6. A poet and artist is coming to speak to us about Chinese literature.

二、中心詞臨近動詞，即就近原則：

連接方式有Either…or…；Neither…nor…；Not only…but also…。

【實例】

7. Either you or one of your students is going to attend the meeting.

三、中心詞遠離動詞，即就遠原則：

主要是“名詞 +介詞 +名詞”這種結構，如…as well as…；…along with…；…except/but…

【實例】

8. The father as well as his three children goes skating on the frozen river.

（中心詞father，而不是children）

9. No one in the department but Tom and I knows that the director is going to resign.

（中心詞No one而不是Tom and I）

10. The number of foreign students has risen steadily since1990.

（中心詞the number，而不是students，即“學生的數量”）

11. Barbara is the only one of the women who wears evening dress.

（中心詞the only one而不是women，即“女人中唯一的那個”）
